Don't Make a Sound
a/n: expanding my spice skills. Bored on my day off so enjoy :))
----------------------------
Street-lamps illuminated the street as the sun finally faded behind the ocean. Once bustling streets now vacant; occupants retiring for the evening. Life of the night found itself in wild bugs and animals dancing in the streets.
There were two minor light sources on in the garage. Yusei typed away on his laptop, desk littered with cup noodle remnants. Thyme sat across the room, journal highlighted by a small desk lamp. Crumpled paper and broken pencils scattered their workspace.
Thyme stood, stretching their arms. They noticed the lack of sunlight in the windows, "Damn, we've been at this all day."
Yusei's gloved fingers paused as he looked up, "Oh. I guess we have." Eyes adjusted to the darkness away from his brightly lit screen.
"You're gonna get a migraine," Thyme walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder, "At least lower the brightness by, like, 10 points."
His hand joined theirs, "I'll be fine." He pulled their hand to his lips, placing a tender kiss over their fingers. "I can still see you, at least."
"Very cute."
"Just being honest." He stood, eyes further adjusting to the lack of light. "You're the best view."
"Even compared to your runner?"
"Don't push it."
They chuckled, squeezing his hand. Ideas formed in their head. "You know, The team's all gone for the night." Thyme pulled his jacket with their free hand, forcing him to step closer, "So we have the garage to ourselves."
Mischief gleaned in his eyes. Hands traced up their shirt, resting on their waistline. "And what did you have in mind?"
"Take your jacket off and find out."
Thyme blinked and the items were gone. Gloves and the jacket laid beside them on the workbench. Yusei stepped closer, pinning Thyme's hips to the edge of the workbench. His hands found their place again up their shirt.
"Was that all?" A confident smirk.
"Belt." Their fingers dipped below his waistband.
He tightened his grip on their body, trying to keep composure. Breath shaky as he finally pulled away. The belt slid off easily along with his jeans. Thyme closed the gap between them. Hands made their way up his torso and relieved him of his shirt.
Yusei gasped, feeling their nails scrape his chest. His blush darkened. In a vain effort to keep himself quiet, he cupped their face and kissed them. Thyme looped their arms around his neck, gently pulling him forward. In a new swing of confidence, Yusei fully leaned into them. Bodies pressed together as their hips again met the edge of the workbench. Thyme moaned into the kiss. Sweat began to form where skin touched skin.
One bite of his bottom lip broke his facade. Yusei buried his face in their neck, trembling with what little composure he had left. Fuck...
"We've barely started and you're already a mess."  Thyme placed a finger on his chin, turning him to meet their gaze.
Don't stop. "Please."
"Hm," Thyme traced their finger down his neck, stopping at his chest. A whine escaped his throat as they continued, "This feels a little one-sided, wouldn't you agree?"
That was all the permission he needed. Hands caught in a whirlwind of motion. Thyme's outer clothes made it to the growing pile on the workbench. Saliva met sweat as Yusei kissed up their neck, teeth grazing the pulse point.
Keys jingled in the front door.
Gasps of surprise as the couple came back to reality. Adrenaline spiked from their compromised position. Thyme grabbed their clothes and threw them in the small locker by the lower exit. Without much time or other options, Yusei pulled them into the larger locker next to it. Bodies pressed together in less-than-ideal circumstance as the overhead lights flickered on.
"Thyyyyyme!!" Crow called from atop the ramp. "Yuseiiiii!"
"Must you be so loud at this hour?" Jack shuddered, "Just put their dinners away if they're not here."
"If they aren't back soon, I'm eating both of them."
"Don't be rude." Akiza helped Crow carry the takeout up to the loft, "Maybe they're out on a walk."
No, we're in here. Yusei felt his pulse thunder in his ears.
A firm hand clasped over his mouth. Yusei's eyes locked with Thyme's as they held a finger over their lips. Make a sound and I'll kill you.
"Sick! Then we have the place to ourselves." Crow plopped onto the sofa. "I'm putting on the Sonic movie."
Both bodies below were flush with sweat and disheveled hair. Clothes in the next door over... Maybe they could wait it out.
Yusei's eyes got a mischievous glint. Or maybe this could be fun.
Hips gyrated in a slow pace. Thyme's eyes went wide as blush returned to their face. Don't you dare.
Mimicking their movement, Yusei clamped his hand over their mouth. Then don't make a sound.
---
Overhead lights finally flickered off. Footsteps upstairs shuffled into bedrooms until silence encapsulated the garage.
The locker slowly opened. Yusei checked the surrounding area before stepping out. Thyme attempted to follow but their legs buckled underneath them.
"Careful,"  A gentle whisper as he caught them, "Don't wake anyone."
"You're a devious bastard." Eyes too exhausted to open.
A soft smile, "You seemed to like it." Hands traced their still-trembling thighs. The sensitivity pulled a gasp from their throat.
"Please," Thyme fully collapsed into his embrace, "I yield."
Yusei stroked their hair, placing a kiss on their forehead. "Let's get dressed and up to bed."

Projection of the Soul
a/n: ya girl made it to season 2 of 5Ds and holy shit someone needs to let these characters just fucking go for it. Just absolutely unleash themselves. fucking give Leo a gun idgaf.
Anyway I am still taking psychic damage from this rewatch. But i am persevering. Youtube retrospectives/analyses help me regain life points.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"If you won't fight with all your might, Signer, then your brother with pay the consequence!"  Lester unleashed his monster, "Take out his life points! And his life!"
"Leo!" Luna screamed, defenseless from her trap cards being wiped out in the previous turn.
Thyme grabbed the twins, the force pulling them completely off their boards. A barrier of water deflecting what it could. Thyme leaned back, using the boosters in their board to rapidly propel backwards out of danger. Leo winced in pain as his points his zero, unconscious but still breathing.
If they hadn't acted, Leo would have perished in that attack.
The board came to a stop, allowing Thyme to release the two. "Luna, let me see your disc." Their tone left no room for discussion.
"Huh? Okay." She raised her arm.
They hit a button- forfeit. "Make sure Leo wakes up."
Luna gasped, "What? Why did you- I can still fight- ah!" Her sign lit up, causing a brief moment of pain.
Thyme didn't respond as they donned metal clawed gloves. Their sign also glowed, eyes matching in a vacant red hue. Something's wrong.
"Thyme wait-" Luna reached out, but Thyme sped off without another word. Sparks scattered as they drug a claw against the pavement.
Something's really wrong.
---
Yusei, Jack, Crow, and Akiza looked on from the road parallel to the duel lane. Marks were glowing, indicating something was off.
"Luna! What's going on!" Crow called out after watching Thyme speed off, "What's happening? Is Leo okay?"
"Leo's fine! It's Thyme! Their eyes are red!" Luna shouted back. She looked around, desperate to find a way to help.
Regulus' spirit suddenly appeared, "Luna! Everyone is in danger!"
"What!?"
"Your friend Thyme, they've been taken over by their sign. The Crimson Dragon is going to project from them! They're going to-"
"THEY'RE GONNA KILL HIM!" Luna's eyes wide with panic and voice raw from screaming. She turned to the road and pointed down the track, "THYME'S GONNA KILL HIM!"
Storm clouds covered the sky. Lightning struck the lane, smoke billowing up where the two duelists should be.
Yusei looked down the road, "The next entrance is too far- we won't make it. Akiza, get us over there!"
She nodded and  played a card, forming a vine bridge between the main road and the duel lane. Rain began to fall, soaking the group. Lightning continued to scatter itself across the horizon.
"This is not good." Jack jumped from the vines. He grabbed Leo's board while tossing Yusei Luna's board, "Let's ride."
Akiza played two more cards, summoning forth horses. Crow picked up Leo while she helped Luna to her feet. Soon the entire group was speeding down the lane, hoping they all weren't too late.
---
The lightning strike knocked Lester off his board. He rolled several feet before stopping. Bruised but not down, he stood to his feet, "Nice party trick. But you still don't have enough to stop Yliaster."
"You tried to kill Leo." It was not Thyme's voice escaping their throat. The red glow of their eyes darkened.
Lester was visibly shaken by the change. "H-hey now. What's with the new persona?"
"You're no child. You're something sinister." Thyme held their hand up to the sky. Lightning struck again as rain began to heavily beat on the pavement. The symbol of the Crimson Dragon appeared on their back and chest.
The boy pulled his hair back, revealing the mechanical workings of his face, "You don't have any idea what you're messing with. What we're trying to protect."
"Neither do you."
Water encircled the pair. A hypnotic pattern of waves spiraled, briefly cutting off connection from beyond this duel. Before Lester could move, it had crawled up his legs and frozen him in place. Panic set in.
"Did you know I could project through my Signers?" the occupant of Thyme's body stepped closer, "The Body of the Crimson Dragon is the best way for me to intervene when needed. The others simply... lack the strength." The Crimson Dragon's head outlined their own. "The Body unites us all together. It pulls from every mark, bringing us to completion."
Lester let out a shaky cackle, "And it's just a bonus that this iteration is a psychic duelist, huh?"
Ice formed in the shape of a blade in Thyme's hand. "The Body is fluid, strong, everlasting. It ebbs and flows within the context of everything that came before us. The Body has always been a state of flowing evolution."
"You can just say yes, you ancient fuck!" Lester chipped at the ice with his fists. "You outdated trash of the past! Let me out of this!"
Two forces grabbed Thyme's arms, forcing the blade to drop and shatter. It was Yusei and Jack, their own eyes starting to glow red.
Jack kicked the back of Thyme's knees, forcing them down. "Stop this at once!"
"This isn't like you, Thyme!" Yusei pleaded as the rain intensified, "You need to stop!"
Thyme's body thrashed about, an unearthly scream releasing itself. The Body of the Dragon projected, snaking its way around the track. The men struggled against the force. Yusei adjusted his grip, weight now pinning their legs to the road.
"Thyme! Can you hear me!" Yusei called out. We're right here. Stop this!
Lester finally freed himself from the melting ice, "It's not your buddy in there right now, idiots. Did you hear nothing?"
"You will leave them alone." A stranger's voice in Thyme's body, "Yliaster and all whom serve you. You will not touch them again."
"Yliaster?" Yusei gasped.
A white streak of light appeared behind Lester. A hand reached out, grabbing his shirt collar and pulling him in.
With the immediate threat gone, the aura of the dragon faded. Thyme collapsed unconscious, blood oozing from their nose and mouth. Storm clouds above vanished just as quickly as they had first appeared.
---
The garage's loft felt too crowded with everyone piled together.
"I did what?!" Thyme tensed, "Surely you're joking."
Crow crossed his arms and leaned against the bookshelf, "You were totally about to murder that guy! There was this whole projection and you were, like, the embodiment of the Crimson Dragon!"
Luna pipped up, "I mean, Lester did try to actually kill Leo. You saved him by acting when you did."
"Yeah, thanks for saving me." Leo leaned over giving Thyme a quick hug. "I don't wanna think about what could've happened without you there."
"You really have no memory about it?" Akiza tilted her head.
"I wasn't in my body." Thyme looked down at their sign, "I remember teaching the twins about riding. Then the duel started... next thing I know Yusei is carrying me to the runners and I'm spitting up blood."
Jack made a fist, "Well, in any case we learned that the Yliaster are involved in this ghost rider plot and are in the city."
"Thyme can manifest the Crimson Dragon itself," Akiza put her hands on her hips, "And they can conjure storms without a second thought."
"And we need to upgrade the hell outta all our rides." Crow held up a finger, "I'm thinking better defense, maybe a new booster-"
The chatter amongst the group faded to white noise in Thyme's head. Their finger traced their sign, trying to recall the events of the previous day. Heartbeat pulsed in their ears. How did I lose control?
"You look overwhelmed," Yusei's whisper pulled Thyme from their thoughts, "Do you need to leave?"
They nodded, letting him take their hand. The group was still talking amongst themselves, allowing the couple to sneak away.
---
"Are you okay?" Yusei shut the door to their shared bedroom, "Yesterday was quite intense."
"Physically I feel fine. Throat's a little sore." Thyme sat on the bed, "Feels like I was screaming for years." I want to hide in this room.
He sat beside them, hand finding theirs. "How about mentally." I can see through you.
Tears formed in their eyes, "Did I do everything they said?" I'm a danger to you all.
"It wasn't you anymore." I'm not afraid.
Thyme stared down at their interlocked hands, vision blurring with tears. "I didn't want to hurt anyone. I just wanted to get us out of the fight."
A gentle squeeze of their hand, Yusei gave Thyme the space they needed to cry. To adjust to these new revelations. To emotionally collapse before they continued down this path.
They wiped away the remaining tears, "Thank you." I'm sorry I'm so messy.
He cupped their face with his free hand, making their foreheads touch. "Always." My love is not fragile.

Crashtown Crashout Part 2
a/n: i said before that Leo should be given a gun (funny) but also consider Thyme with a gun (war criminal)
aka- thyme still has that muscle memory of being in a gang and reminds the boys how strong they are
----------------------------------------
Wood blocks around their necks kept the prisoner's hands at eye level. Tunnels into the mountain were deeper than previously imagined. Kalin's face was the most at peace- the light from his eyes simply gone, vacant. He kept his gaze to the floor. Radley was the most panicked, eyes darting around and nervous whispers on his tongue. Nonsensical murmurs and curses filled the white noise of the walkway.
Yusei kept his eyes focused. A mental map of the path from the entrance formed in his head. I can get us out of here.
Thyme's eyes held nothing but contempt. When you do, I'm killing Barb.
After what felt like ages, the group finally stopped. The entrance before them led into an eternal stone room. Sounds of agony and pickaxes reverberated through the tunnels. Sparks fluttered in the air- from pickaxes against stone and cracks of whips against backs.
"Ya know, you don't have to work with just your hands down here." one of the men stood behind Thyme, hands going up their shirt.
Grit teeth and nothing left to lose. Thyme threw their head back into his nose. Blood burst and he yelled in pain.  With the free space between them, they spun around, kick high enough to connect with the culprit's head. A strong hand grabbed Thyme's block, tossing them backwards. Being thrown against the wall shattered their wooden shackles. Stray nails and splinters scattered in the cave entrance as one of the bandanas pinned Thyme to the ground.
"Last act of defiance, bitch." Metal clicked, a collar impossibly tight against their skin. Electric current ripped through their body. Involuntary contractions as Thyme writhed in pain on the ground.
More metal clicks followed by heavy thuds of wood. The quartet now had matching necklaces to commemorate their arrival to the mountain. Radley turned to Kalin and gripped his shirt collar, "How could you! We're here because you lost!"
Kalin did nothing to respond. His body as vacant as his eyes, yet at peace. One could argue Kalin was simply a walking corpse among the stones. Red bandanas broke the two up, struggling to keep Radley under control.
Yusei, free from the men for a moment, rushed to Thyme's aid. He knelt beside them as the current finally stopped pulsing through their body. Trembling hands found balance against his solid frame.
"I want to kill them all." Soft whispers laced with justified rage.
"I know." Solidarity in near-equal levels of anger. Yusei squeezed their hand, helping them to their feet. Something cold pressed into his palm from Thyme’s hand. Is this-
They subtly shook their head. Keep it hidden.
"Up and at 'em, boys!" Guns drawn as the bandanas finally separated Radley from Kalin, "Welcome to the rest of your life, however long that may be."
The vastness of the mining cavern could not be overstated. Waves of former duelists lined the walls, pickaxes in hand. Red bandanas watched over the labor, placed strategically around the landscape. An iron water tower idolized itself in the center of the room. Carts of Dyne and other precious metals wheeled away on the tracks encircling it. If one could ignore the horrors, it'd probably be a fun rollercoaster.
The men who had led them to the cavern split the group. Guns pressed to their backs said enough about resistance. Worried looks as Yusei turned to catch Thyme's gaze.
They shook their head again. Trust me.
A nod. With my whole soul.
"I'll find you." Hands lingered intertwined as long as they could before being separated.
Radley went west; Thyme was taken to the bottom; Yusei and Kalin were escorted east. The eastern cliff at least overlooked the bottom level, giving Yusei the tiniest relief.
"You should start mining." Kalin grabbed an axe. "It makes the time pass, at least."
"How can you just stand by? This isn't like you." Yusei took his place beside him.
“Fate brought me here. This is where I’m meant to be.” Kalin began mindlessly hacking away with the pickaxe. “Fate has a sick sense of humor, though. I always thought you two would take over the Enforcers back then."
"Kalin..."
"All possibilities of my future lead here. This is where I belong- Where I deserve to be. I won't fight fate's will."
"Deserve? You-"
Kalin hit solid stone, the impact forcing him to drop his axe. Whips cracked against his back. The grunt watching over the pair had a sadistic smile, itching in anticipation to strike again. Kalin managed enough strength to get back up, much to his overseer's dismay.
A loud horn blew, making Yusei and Kalin flinch. The current overseers met with new grunts at the cave mouth. Idle chatter and laughter distracted them for the time being.
Yusei looked down the pit, catching Thyme as they looked up. He's not ready.
They shook their head. Make him.
He shrugged. Working on it.
Next shift change. Time it right. Thyme overheard new voices and their disgusting comments. They returned to their work, plans forming in their mind.
---
Pitch darkness illuminated by only starlight and the crescent moon. Dirt and sand intermingled in trails leading to tunnels inside the mountain. It gave way to heavy tire marks and little footprints fueled by determination.
"We have to find them."
"We will. Just keep pushing."
---
"Kalin, I won't let you wither away here." Yusei's grip tightened on his pickaxe.
"It's fate's will." Kalin hung his head forward. "I've done too much to forgive."
Minutes blended into hours. Any sense of time in this prison was warped beyond comprehension. Before they knew it, loud horns blared again. Overseers left their positions, greeting the incoming shift with banter and grossly incompetent comments.
Window for freedom starts now.
Yusei pulled a nail from his pocket, "Thyme gave me this. We have a way out." He shoved the metal into his collar, gears clicking until the lock popped open. "Now snap out of it and get going."
"You always were good with machines." A somber smile, "Glad your other half is able to get you to safety." Stone sparked at the strike of his axe.
"Kalin-"
"Fate is a cruel mistress." The haze of his mind refused any new hopes. "Leave me to her whims."
A balled fist. "Then call me fate!"
The pain of the punch to his gut hit just the right nerves. Kalin gasped for air before collapsing into Yusei's arms. Pickaxes collided with the earth, noise cancelled out by the drones of other workers. Two collars dropped to the ground. Blue gaze found green eyes staring up from the basin.
A knowing smile on their face. "Run you clever boy."
"Thyme..."
Another nail shoved into their collar, finally freeing them from unfriendly currents. The hateful necklace clattered to the ground. Thyme held their hand up high, "I'll find you."
Iron cracked through years of rust and regrets. Water began to spew from the central tower- whirlwinds of whirlpools surrounded the red bandanas. Screams of surprise and pain as currents tossed them like sacks of flour. Thyme couldn't lie and say they didn't enjoy the revenge.
Backup gang grunts began to filter in from deep within the tunnels. Avoiding the water while trying to take Thyme out would prove difficult. Shots of energy and metal ricocheted and missed all intended targets.
"I can work with more than my hands! Isn't this what you wanted?!"  Rage churned in their eyes. Almost a sadistic pleasure as the assaulters' pain amplified.
Thyme lived up to their fateful Satellite nickname- water weaving around the prisoners and leaving most unscathed. Picks of ice formed, allowing those brave enough to grasp their freedom to run for it. Red bandanas who escaped the whirlpools had to choose to save their comrades or punish the escapists.
Yusei took advantage of the chaos, finding a forgotten tunnel entrance hidden behind Dyne conveyer belts. It stretched into darkness, but freedom had to be on the other side. No one seemed to notice as the two men slipped away.
One final look back- You'd better meet us at the end.

Crashtown Crashout Part 1
a/n: crashtown arc best arc
----------------------------
"Which of our friends made their way out here?” Thyme held onto Yusei as the runner sped through the desert. “This is a wasteland. Feels like we’ve been riding for hours.”
“I don’t know, but this Barb character says they need help. We can’t just leave them hanging.” Yusei placed his hand over theirs, thumb mindlessly tracing their knuckles. I just hope we aren’t too late.
Thyme rested their head on his shoulder, “You’re right. We’ll get them out of whatever trouble they’ve found.” We’re right where we need to be.
---
Crashtown was... emptier than expected. With the amount of footprints and bike tracks in the dust, one would think it bustling with life. Thyme stared up at the windows; Figures ducking out of sight gave them enough of an answer.
"Something's wrong with this town," A quiet whisper against his ear, "Too many are hiding." The question is...from what?
Yusei parked the runner beside a flower shop- extending a hand to help Thyme to their feet. "Keep your eyes open." We won't run and hide.
"Pretty thing ya got there." Men with red bandanas appeared out of nowhere. Five.... Ten... twenty. The couple was encircled and out numbered. "And I don't mean your hunk of metal."
Thyme kept ahold of Yusei's hand. Eyes stared daggers into the approaching crowd. Stay calm stay calm stay calm stay-
"Duel ya for one hour of Lil' Pretty's time." One spoke as he stepped closer. Alcohol danced off his breath.
Yusei ignored the men, "I don't waste my time with amateur duelists."
"Amateur?!" He charged with raised fists, "I'll show you-"
Thyme grabbed the man's arm impossibly fast. He was spun around, arm pushed to its limit behind his back. Their free arm locked his head in a chokehold, keeping his posture straight. They remained silently focused as the man's face changed colors.
"Thyme," Yusei placed a hand on their shoulder. We're outmatched here.
Without further damage, they released their grip. A silent agreement to Yusei's plea. The offender collapsed to the ground, gasping for air. Two other men rushed to his aid.
"You think you're tough?" The group's leader pulled out his duel disc, "Got you're little attack dog fighting for you? Get your disc out! I'll show you tough!"
"ENOUGH!" A woman stepped out from the shop, "This is no way to welcome guests!"
He raised an eyebrow, "Barb, did you invite these psychos?!"
Huh, so that's Barb. Thyme eyed the woman as she scolded the group.
Barb's brow furrowed, "They're not psychotic, just defending themselves from you lot!" A slender finger sternly pointed at them, "How dare you try to duel outside of the rules! I'll get Malcom on your hairy ass if you don't apologize this instant!"
A slew of apologies immediately followed by group dispersement. Yusei observed everyone quickly leaving the limits of town. On foot and on runners, every red bandana vacated.  They must be terrified of Malcom...
Barb twirled around, "A million apologies. Life in the Wastes can, well, erode ones manners." She extended a hand, "I'm Barb, and I'm so glad you've arrived."
"You said a friend of ours was in trouble." Yusei stepped forward, shaking her hand, "What kind of trouble do you mean?"
"Right to the point, eh? Unfortunately my evasiveness serves a purpose. The information you need  will only be revealed at sundown."
"Why? That's hours from now." Thyme tilted their head.
"It's better to show instead of explain." Barb picked a half-withered rose from her display and offered it to them, "My home is your home until sundown."
---
Plateau heights provided the best vantage point over the entire town. Two gangs gathered as the sun began to collide with the horizon. Crowds of people, once hiding in their homes, now flooded the street in anxious anticipation.
The dusk duel was over before it had begun. A familiar white-haired duelist emptied his hand, completely eliminating his opponent's life points. Men on the carriage tossed a lasso at the loser. Vain attempts at escape proved futile; they easily dragged him into a coffin. Dust kicked up as the horses carried the doomed towards the mountain. Wind picked up the jacket of the winner, framing his body while the gang behind him cheered.
“Kalin!” Yusei balled his fists. He's joined another gang?!
"Radley's gang has been on a winning streak with Kalin at the helm." Barb leaned back from her seat onto her arms. "However, just one win from Malcom's family will send him to the mountain mine. He'll die there."
Thyme twirled the rose in their hand, "Suicide by duel...” You've already atoned for your sins.
"Stopping Kalin will save him from this fate." Barb stood, "I've tried reasoning with him. He'll only listen to duels. If you haven't gathered, I'm not exactly skilled with monster cards." She kicked a collection of pebbles off the cliffside. "A disruption of this magnitude could even break the entire thing down. It's so barbaric..."
Yusei couldn't pull his eyes from Kalin's motorbike. It lagged behind the others. Radley's gang rode off into the night, laughter echoing throughout the air... but there was a profound sadness mixed with it. Like a cry for help from the soul of the damned.
Kalin... I forgave you... please don't do this...
A gentle hand on his back brought him back to reality. Yusei blinked back tears and turned to meet Thyme's gaze. An empathetic look as they traced circles over his shoulder.
That doesn't matter. He hasn't forgiven himself.
"We're in," Yusei finally broke the silence. "What's your plan?"
---
A new dawn ends with a new dusk.
Radley's gang could be heard before they could be seen. Motorbikes lined the newly crowded street with smoke and bad decisions. Crowds began to exit their homes, hoping to catch a glimpse of the upcoming action.
Radley stood from his bike, "Malcom! What sacrifice have you brought tonight for the mountain?"
Malcom postured at his opponent, "It's you who brought the sacrifice!"
Cackling laughter, "My best duelist has conquered fifty of your men!" He clapped, the motion bringing Kalin to the front. "Who's got the guts to confront their fate?"
"I do."
Kalin's body visibly relaxed as Yusei stepped into the square. "So it's today... finally..."
"Kalin, what are you doing here?"
"Paying my debts to the damned." Boots and metal rattled as he took position in the square.
Thyme stepped down from the shop entrance, "You can't keep killing yourself for sins already atoned."
"Ah, so one is still never far from the other." Eyes shifted to the horizon, "Fate's a funny thing... it's fitting you'd both be here to see me off."
Yusei made a fist, "Stop being stubborn! Leave this mess behind and come back home."
Radley placed a firm hand on Kalin's shoulder, "You better not go easy just because you know them. You're bound by contract."
"Get out your disc," Kalin readied himself, "I'm not going out without a fight."
---
Thank you.
Life points drained to zero. Kalin didn't sway or stumble. A smile of relief crossed his face as the lasso wrapped around his frail body. Cries of disbelief came from the gang behind him.
“Barb, now!” Yusei turned, only to be met with a sudden shock. Every muscle in his body went numb. Dirt covered his face as he collapsed. What?!
She laughed, “Thank you for all you’ve done.”
Thyme rushed behind her, tackling her to the ground. Dirt and rocks dug into their skin, “What did you do?!”
“This!” Another shockwave struck Thyme’s body, this time coming from Malcolm’s gun. The same numb feeling shook Thyme, making them easy for Barb to shove off. They rolled, landing next to Yusei in the square.
Loud sounds of an engine pierced everyone's ears. A large motorbike drifted into the chaos, piloted by a large duelist. "Radley! I challenge you to a duel!"
Radley's hand trembled, "Lawton?! There, uh, there isn't enough time for a duel! The sun's almost set!"
Lawton jumped from his vehicle, landing directly in front of the rival gang leader, "I only need one turn, coward."
Life points hit zero. Radley didn't have time to scream as Lawton punched him unconscious. The lasso caught his body as it fell, dragging him easily to the carriage with Kalin.
"We couldn't have done it without your help," Barb knelt down, tracing a nail down Yusei's marker. "We needed Kalin out of the picture so that Lawton could take out Radley. Now my sweetie Malcom will run this town."
Malcom knelt beside her, "Beauty AND brains in this woman!" He nodded to the carriage driver, "You got two more coming up with them!"
How could I be so blind? Yusei turned his gaze to Thyme and Kalin. Please forgive me...
Lawton stared down, a condescending smirk across his face, "The mountain ain't a place for a pretty thing like that." He pointed to Thyme. "Don't you owe some of Malcolm's men an hour of your time?"
Emerald eyes wide with panic. No!
“Yeah, what if we did keep you in town?” Malcom pulled Thyme’s chin close, “I got guys deserving of some personal servants, hah!” He traced his thumb down their lip. "You'd do just fine-"
Thyme managed enough strength to bite his thumb. Blood burst, immediately dripping down their face. I'd rather die!
“Ah!” Malcom reared back, slapping them. Thyme collapsed from the force. “Insolent bitch! Join your friends in the mines.”
Four coffins closed. Chaos erupted as the red gang took over. Radley, Kalin, Yusei, and Thyme were taken to the mountain as night fell across the desert.

Dangling By A Thread
a/n: night shift got me like🙃🥲
Lowkey loving it bc during slow periods I can work on things like this. Gives me some creative liberty.
----------------------------------------
Crow threw up his hands, "I yield!"
Back against the wall. The duelist gang closed in despite his pleas. Crow nervously laughed, "Hey, sorry for trying to duel you guys. Like, can we just be friends instead?"
The leader grabbed Crow's disc, "I don't think so." He tossed it to the side, where another member smashed it with their boots. "We don't take kindly to weak wannabes."
A red blinking light began beeping from the destroyed disc.
"What's this?" one of the brutes picked up the piece.
Crow smirked, "You might wanna cover your ears."
The west wall exploded. Smoke covered the room as four shadows moved among the darkness. Lassos emerged, grabbing the discs of the gang. All at once, duels broke out. Beings in the shadows began winning, forcing the gang's discs to short circuit.
Another lasso emerged, all the way on the third floor scaffolding. Enraged, the grunt threw down his disc, "Fight me like a real man! Don't hide behind your deck!"
Thyme's eyes glistened as they stepped into the light, "I was hoping you'd say that."
"Huh?! Hey, I won't go easy on you just because you-" Interrupted by a swift kick to the chest. He flew back, landing against the wall.
Thyme grabbed the grunt's discarded disc, breaking it over their knee. "I'm not what you think."
"Behind you!" Crow called out from below.
Thyme instantly ducked, which dodged another grunt's attack. Metal sparked as the pipe hit the railing. In prime position, they lunged forward. A shout of surprise escaped his throat as Thyme tackled him to the ground. One punch to the face put him to sleep.
Pain shot through their head as someone grabbed their hair. Thyme struggled as the previous man lifted them off the ground. His free hand closed around their neck, the grip on their hair released. Gasps were all they could manage as their face started to turn red. Nails attempted to claw at his arm- leather gloves prevented any damage.
"You think you're some kinda tough guy?" He lifted them to eye level. "Newsflash, bitch, you're not!"
Thyme couldn't scream as they were tossed off the third floor railing.
Time slowed down. Seconds felt like minutes as the ceiling felt farther and farther away. Thyme reached up, desperate for a miracle. All of their efforts, was it all for naught? Everything they'd invested of themselves into this team- what good was it?
Someone help me!
A shift in force. Thyme felt someone jump into them, grabbing them before they hit the floor. Concrete and dirt spun to a blur in their vision as the duo rolled to safety. Thyme was pulled into his chest, arms and body curled around them in a protective embrace. Limbs slid against smooth concrete, finally coming to a stop against a pillar.
"Don't scare me like that, rookie." Kalin's grip released, arms visibly bruised from the catch. He remained knelt beside them as Thyme turned to catch their breath. They hunched over, gasping and coughing while their face returned to normal color. Blood escaped from their lips, leaving drops on the warehouse floor.
Kalin kept a hand on Thyme's back and stared down the culprit, "You're gonna regret hurting my team!"
"You and what army!" A cackle, "Maybe in a duel you could win, but I fight with brute force!"
"And we fight together!" Brick crumbled over his head. The grunt swayed as Crow landed behind him. "Now!"
Jack and Yusei cut the cords holding the railing up. Crow jumped backwards as the floor gave out. Thunderous destruction- the railing collided with others until a shower of metal lost to gravity.
"We have to leave!" The boys descended to the bottom floor. Yusei helped Kalin carry Thyme into the street.
---
Headquarters cast a shadow against the sunrise as the team made their way up the hill. Thyme had regained enough strength to walk; Yusei kept a hand on their back to keep them steady. The gang managed to get inside without any further trouble.
The kitchen roared to life as Yusei began busying himself. He set multiple cups of tea on a tray, carrying them around to each member.
He settled with his final two cups by Thyme. "Are you okay?"
They rubbed their neck, bruised and red from the fight, "I will be."
Conversations of whispers engaged at both ends of the long dining room table.
Jack helped Kalin wrap his arms, eyeing the couple at the opposite end. "Tough landing?"
Kalin laughed, "Worth it. They do good by the team."
"And Yusei wasn't close enough," Crow interjected with a harsh whisper. "You saved Mr. Lovesick Puppy's crush." he turned to look at Kalin, "Did you see the look on his face when you caught them?"
Jack swat at Crow's head, "Stop rambling or he'll hear us."
"Oh, c'mon, it is so obvious guys." Crow ducked behind Kalin, just out of the blond's reach, "$20 they'll get together by the end of the month."
"You're on." Jack finished wrapping the bandages. "He loves building his machines more."
"Alright everyone!" Kalin stood, going to a cabinet. The group gathered around his seat at the table. He came back and unfolded a map of Satellite, "We have one more gang before all of Satellite is united! This'll be our biggest challenge yet."
Crow cocked his head, "Which gang is left?"
"Team Non-Securities..." Yusei pondered a moment, "They're huge."
"And strong," Thyme's hand rested over their bruise, "The one I fought was expelled from their group."
Yusei balled his fist, "More reason to take them out."
Kalin held up a hand, "There's many of them, but we are stronger. Our decks and abilities far outweigh their numbers." He grabbed a marker, "We ride in two days. Here's the plan."
---
Chaos in the Slum District.
Jack managed to stave off the ground floor occupants as Kalin and Yusei chased Team Non-Securities' leader to the roof. Crow and Thyme followed suit, only to get caught by third floor backup. Wind rushed through their hair- the rooftop was seven stories up.
Unwavering in his determination, Yusei sent out his lasso. "Coward!"
The leader backed up towards the edge, "You don't know when to quit, kid." He hopped the railing, pulling Yusei with him. "Ain't ever heard of gravity, punk?!" Hanging off the edge of the neighboring rail, he pulled as hard as he could on the lasso before tossing his own disc into the air.
Yusei screamed as he fell over the railing. Not like this! Please!
"I got you!" Kalin grabbed the falling lasso. He braced himself against the edge, struggling to pull him up. Crow reached the roof, immediately diving to hold Kalin steady.
"Die!" The leader looked over the neighboring edge, bricks raised above his head.
Fast as the wind, a hand griped his hair and pulled him away from the edge. Force fueled by anger tossed him and the bricks to the ground.
"What do you think you're doing?" Jack towered over him, fists balled.
Back across the alleyway, Yusei hung helplessly as wind continued to push past. The lasso couldn't withstand the forces. It began to fray, the sudden jolts of gravity caused his stomach to twist in knots
"You have to let me go!" Yusei looked up, "You'll fall with me!" Eyes watered with panic.
"I'm not letting you die here!" Kalin closed his eyes, forcing his arms to pull with strength he didn't know he had. "You're like a brother to me! Brothers don't let each other fall to death!"
Another strand frayed.
"Kalin, save yourself!"
"No!"
The final strand snapped.
"Yusei!" Kalin screamed as he reached down, eyes wide. Crow gripped his legs, dragging him back onto the roof.
This can't be real.
Yusei felt time move in slow motion. The building stretched impossibly high as his body descended to the ground. What about his team? What about Thyme? He had so much he still wanted to say, too much still to do.
Help me!
Glass shattered from a newly broken window. Yusei closed his eyes as another force gripped his body. Strong arms pulled him close as the duo landed in the neighboring building's empty garage space. He felt heavy against the body pulling him into a protective embrace. Brick and concrete rolled with them, debris scattered and bruised their bodies before they finally slid to a stop.
"Fuck...You okay?"
Yusei opened his eyes, finding himself not dead. On top of someone. Covered in a shower of broken glass and concrete.
Thyme groaned, staring up at his now flushed cheeks, "C'mon, you gotta admit that was kinda cool. But also painful."
"I..." words escaped him as his mind went blank. You're so close.
They propped up on their arms, "Hey, Earth to Yusei? You okay?"
He shook his head, snapping himself out of his daze. "I, uh. You're really strong."
Thyme placed a hand on his cheek, wiping away glass and blood, "Guess I couldn't deflect all the debris from hitting you."
He winced, the cuts stinging his face, "I'll be fine." Stay here a moment longer...
"If you get off of me we can go get you bandaged up." Thyme didn't think his face could get any more red. You're cute when you're embarrassed.
He scrambled to his feet, eyes avoidant and blush worsening. Yusei extended a hand; Thyme accepted the help up.
"You never answered me." They tilted their head, "You okay?"
"I will be." Blue eyes met green, "... Thanks for saving me."
A friendly smile, "You'd do the same for me."
I'd do anything for you. "Yeah, I would."

Jump-ship Jumpstart
a/n: The beginning of Thyme. This is when they arrive in Satellite and meet the Enforcers.
--------------------------------------------------
It was a sunny afternoon when the ship docked on Satellite's shipyard. Wind breezed in from the coast. Salt mixed with rot and rust, creating unpleasant overstimulation of the senses. The drawbridge entrance to the recent prison ship opened. Freshly marked occupants descended- Securities flanking the sides of the bridge.
"Welcome to your new home, trash heaps!" One guard laughed, "If ya don't like it, ya should've never broken New Domino City's laws!"
Thyme’s boots hit the mud, fresh from the recent rain. They moved with the flow of the crowd, keeping their eyes low. They absentmindedly traced the star shape of their new marker. Avoid trouble. Help the needy. That’s all you have to do to survive.
Should be easy enough.
“I recognize you,” A hand gripped their shoulder, “You was a sailor on the cargo ship. They finally catch your little smuggling operation?”
Nevermind.
“Depends who’s asking.” Thyme ducked, getting out of the stranger’s grip. “I’m simply trying to live.”
“Hell of a place to live.” Another stranger appeared from around the corner. “Especially for someone who ain’t so useful anymore.”
Thyme suddenly realized how isolated this street had become, “I’m useful in many ways.”
"Well, c'mon, sea legs," A third stranger appeared and cracked his knuckles. “You got us a lotta money from your operation. Got a new one?”
3 v 1, “Not yet.”
A chuckle, “Well, then you ain’t able to pay. We don't take kindly to sailors who ain’t gonna pay." He pulled a deck from his side pouch, “You can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
Thyme grit their teeth, “I don’t have a deck.”
"Hah! The easy way then! This'll be easy pickin's boys!"
The rev of an engine interrupted the group. Tires squealed on stone as a security bike emerged from the shadows. Tires spun in mud, spraying the attackers.
An orange haired rider, “Get on!”
Thyme didn’t wait for a second opinion. They hopped on the back as the rider took off.
“Damn, you know how to throw a welcoming party!” He laughed as he turned down a corner, “I’m Crow. You?”
“Thyme.”
“Awesome! Anyway, I borrowed this bike, so let’s get some distance and then run for it!”
“What?!”
“Yep! First day and you’re an accessory to burglary! Haha, sorry!”
Another runner rounded the corner, headed straight for the duo. The rider was one of the strangers from the gang trying to shake Thyme down. He remained silent, but the charge from his duel runner showed enough intent.
Crow grimaced, “Balls! Hold on, this might hurt!”
Thyme leaned over his shoulder with their hand outstretched. Eyes focused on the mud and puddles. Water crept up, forming a ramp.
“Wh-what are you-“
“Just drive.” They closed their fist, freezing it in place. The duo soared over while the assailant crashed. Shards of ice descended, removing the evidence of their escape.
“Holy shit! You some kinda mage?” Crow gripped the handles on the Security bike, “The guys will love you!”
“There’s more of you?” Thyme braced themselves as the bike landed on the road. “Are you all this wild?!”
“Nah, Yusei’s pretty chill. Really handy.” He made another turn, “Jack’s got a stick up his ass and thinks he’s some kinda hotshot. Kalin’s cool but has his head in the clouds about the gang.”
“…nifty.”
Crow weaved down a maze of alleyways. In an instant, lights surrounded them, "Oh, sick! Bisexual lighting!"
"It's Securities! Drive faster!" Thyme held on tightly to the seat. The sirens behind them felt intensely loud. How did they find us?! There must be a tracker in this bike... Rounding another corner, Thyme saw the docks ahead. "Crow! Hold steady as long as you can!"
"What?"
"Jump when I say!"
"You better know what you're doing, Mage!"
Thyme turned around on the back of the bike. Arms slowly raised, bringing with it water from the scattered puddles. A web weaved itself across the bricks and froze in place. Securities rounded the corner too fast-
"Jump!" Thyme grabbed Crow's arm, pulling him off and forcing the runner the opposite way. The pair landed in the water off the docks. Thyme pulled Crow underneath the footboards and motioned for him to keep quiet.
The runner steered itself down the alley before crashing. Sirens blared and rolled by. They had escaped, for now.
"Nice tricks ya got, Mage," Crow motioned for Thyme to follow him in the water, "That might save you in a pinch, but you need a deck to survive in these parts."
They shrugged, "I'll figure something out."
"You don't gotta do it alone. My friends would love to meet you."
"Charming."
"Hey, without me you would've been stuck with those weirdos. It's rough here." Crow reached a ladder and held out his hand. "Come for the night. You can take off in the morning if you don't like it."
Thyme sighed and took his hand, "You have a point."
"Hell yeah! The boys will just love you!"
---
The building on the hill seemed unopposing from the outside. On the inside, it was brewing with life and grit. Yusei and Jack pinned Thyme down, applying handcuffs and tying their legs together.
Thyme stared daggers into Crow, "This sure is a warm welcome."
"Guys, this is overkill!" He seemed remorseful, "Please, give Thyme a chance!"
Kalin crossed his arms, “Crow, why did you bring a stranger to our base.”
“Well, ya see, I was all by my lonesome when all of a sudden there was this bike just by itself-“
Jack knocked the back of Crow’s head, “Skip the narrations! Did you or did you not lead Securities or a rival gang to us!”
“I literally just got to Satellite.” Thyme held up their handcuffed wrists, "Is this really necessary? I fucking helped Crow evade Securities in the docks.”
Crow rubbed the back of his head, “Yeah! Guys, you should’ve seen it. They got this sick water ability and we soared over this guy charging at us!”
“You what?” Kalin shifted his gaze
Thyme floated water from a glass over to their cuffs. It weaved into the lock and froze, allowing them to free their hands. Using their newfound freedom, Thyme pushed up, sweeping Yusei off his feet. The sudden upset allowed them to grab the key from his belt.
They stood, unshackled. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would have by now." They dropped the key, which hit Yusei's forehead.
"Ow." He sat up, rubbing the bruise. "You got spark, I'll give you that."
Kalin smirked, "I’ve heard of psychic duelists, but where’s your deck?”
“I don’t have one.”
“Well, you’ll have to find one if you’re gonna be in our gang.”
They raised an eyebrow, “Hm?”
“If you’re gonna crash here, you gotta earn your keep.” Kalin shrugged his arms. “You saved Crow’s hide, so I’ll extend this exclusive offer as thanks.”
Thyme crossed their arms, mulling it over. This seems to be the safest place… and these guys aren’t half bad. It seems to be good to have connections here.
Kalin raised an eyebrow, “Well?”
“I accept.” Thyme placed their hands on their hips, “I’m hoping that one of you will tell me where I can find some cards.”
Yusei raised his hand, "I'll take them to the junkyard and help them scrap together a deck.”
Kalin laughed, “If they cause any trouble, hopefully you can fight better in round 2.”
--
Dawn broke over the horizon. Thyme and Yusei were already up, walking along the coast of Satellite. Waves lapped up to their feet.
Yusei spoke first, “So, what’s with this water thing Crow says you can do?”
Thyme raised their arm, “This.”
A tendril of the ocean bent itself to their will. It wrapped around their arm, flowing across Thyme’s body until it settled on Yusei’s shoulders. They closed their fist, freezing it entirely.
He jumped, arching his back to shake it off, “Ah! It’s cold!”
“Ice usually is.”
“Very funny.” He grinned after getting the ice off of him, “Well, we’re here.”
A lot filled with junk lined everything the duo could see. Thyme’s eyes scanned the scene, taking in just how expansive it was. “This is… huge.”
Yusei looked up, "Scrap mountains as far as you can see. The City tosses what they believe to be garbage here. We should find enough cards to make a starter deck for you."
"Why are so many cards tossed here?"
"They don't see the value in them. They don't care enough to breathe life from their hands."
“How poetic.” Thyme stepped forward, “Let’s start looking.”
The pair began scouring every nook and cranny of the area. They’d found quite a few cards in the trash. The sun had fully risen and begun it’s descent over the horizon before they had finished.
Thyme stepped off to the side, searching the piles right before Yusei took them back to base. A card stuck out from a broken TV monitor. Thyme bent down, "...Stormwave Dragon?"
"Oh, cool!" Yusei knelt beside them, finding another card. "Hm... Stardust Dragon."
"These look amazing... why would anyone toss these?"
"Doesn't matter. They're ours now. We'll treat them right." Yusei hooked his arm around Thyme, bringing them close, “We got a good haul today. Let’s make it back to base as quickly as possible. We can’t afford to get jumped.”
“Understood, captain.”

Vacancy of the Once Was
a/n: Tumblr mobile having a character limit is the stupidest fucking thing ever. Who thought of that. Public execution.
Anyway, this is a pseudo part 2 of AAA. We flash forward to later in season one of 5Ds and Thyme goes back to Enforcer HQ.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Broken concrete and scattered garbage lined the entryway of the building. Thyme didn't remember leaving the house, just knew deep in their heart they had to find this place. Had to remember everything Sayer tried to take.
Had to prove Kalin wrong. Even if he'd been taken by the Dark Signers.
Even little miss Missing is back! I knew you could never handle being an Enforcer. Did you find what you were looking for? A life without us off of Satellite?
Satellite had shifted since they'd disappeared. Buildings seemed in better condition in the densely populated areas. Securities was advancing in technology, but so were the gangs. The balance was ever evolving despite adversity.
Time keeps moving, even when one's world comes crashing down.
The Enforcer HQ felt... different. Or maybe they had been changed beyond reckoning by Arcadia. Different visions of memories collided in their skull. Who was I? What did they take from me?
The faint hum of an engine echoed up the hill. They turned, spotting Yusei balancing on their hoverboard. He was guarding his injury from Kalin's battle, still tender but determined. The board stopped beside the entrance, letting him step off before it shut down.
"You should still be at Martha's." Thyme's concern was unhide-able, "You'll tear open those stitches."
"I'm fine." Yusei stepped forward, "I can't let you do this alone." I care too much.
"How'd you even find me?" a step closer.
"Rally spilled." I'll always find you.
"Weren't both of our rides broken from the fight?" another step.
"Crow and I fixed your board, only the balance and booster were broken." Please let me love you the only way I know how.
They sighed, placing a hand over his injury. A whirl of water flowed, finally freezing into a thin slab of ice. Yusei groaned, head landing on Thyme's shoulder as the cold dissipated the pain.
"I need to remember." Thyme turned to face the entrance, arm draped around Yusei's waist. "They took who I am. I'm lost in the maze Sayer forced on me."
"Then let's do it." he nudged them forward. Yusei held open the entryway door as they both stepped inside. "Does this feel familiar?"
Nothing.
Thyme let their hand trace dust and dirt from the decrepit walls. No sudden spark came to mind. Crow had mentioned how the Enforcers conquered all of Satellite from here. All five of them stood strong in these hallways, on the streets, in bars and homes across the island.
Right now, it was just an empty abandoned building.
An isolated tear fell down their cheek, "I know things are supposed to be important. I just don't know why." Did we truly live here?
"Well, you found all this without my or Crow's help. Tell me what you remember. Even if you're not sure." We lived a dozen lives together in these halls.
Thyme opened a door in the hallway. Stepping in, their eyes adjusted to see abandoned blankets and mattresses lining the walls. Flashes of figures crowded their vision. Kalin and Jack locked in a duel. Kalin won, of course. Crow and Thyme singing drunken karaoke. Their closeness made Yusei flush with jealousy- even though neither of them realized it at the time. Kalin versus Yusei arm wrestling contest- leading to Yusei beating all the Enforcers.
Thyme's gaze settled on two mattresses shoved together in the corner. "We slept here."
Yusei nodded, "All of us shared this room."
"No... you and I slept here." They pointed to the corner, "You placed them together the day we... got back from... the...." Thyme closed their eyes, tilting their head trying to remember details. "It was night....We'd left on foot..."
"The alley?" A hopeful glint shone in his eyes. He stepped forward, hand reaching down to take theirs, "What did we do?"
Assurance in clarity, "I beat you in a fight."
A chuckle, "You cheated! I would win now-"
Muscle memory kicked in. Thyme steadied their grip on Yusei's hand while kicking out his legs. He let out a cry of surprise, air forcing itself out of his lungs as he landed on his back. Thyme moved swiftly, pinning his arms  beside his head while using their bodyweight to immobilize his hips.
"I win again." A playful smirk, "I think last time I had you against the wall."
"Good job." A groan as he caught his breath, "You forgot something, though."
Yusei kicked up his legs, knocking Thyme off balance. They let out a yelp as he gained control.  One of his hands gripped their forearms, pinning them above their head. His knee hooked their leg around his hip. A free hand kept their hips immobile.
"I'm a lot stronger now," he rested his forehead on theirs. Voice a gentle whisper for only them in this moment.
Both of their faces were flush with red. Thyme tilted their chin up, stealing a kiss. The grip on their arms released as Yusei cupped their face, chasing a deeper kiss. Their hands wandered, tenderly tracing patterns underneath his shirt. They replaced the melted ice over his bandage. A brief moan interrupted their kiss.
It felt so natural, so right to be together. We've been apart for too long.
He pulled back, catching his breath, "I never stopped looking."
Thyme used the new space to prop up on their arms, "I know."
"I never stopped. I knew you were still out there. We searched all of Satellite, and I kept going even after Kalin got arrested. I just wish I would've been faster I could've stopped them and--"
Another kiss cut him off. Thyme placed a hand on his cheek, thumb wiping away stray tears. "What's done is done. I don't blame you. Don't go and blame yourself, either."
Yusei closed his eyes, head buried in their neck. The couple laid back down and welcomed the comforting silence like a friend. His hands settled on their waist, a gentle squeeze of reassurance telling them he was still present. Do you remember how much I love you?
"Everything is coming back in pieces." Their fingers danced in his hair, "I don't have the whole puzzle figured out, but I'm certain of one thing."
"What's that?"
"I know that I loved you then as much as I love you now." A gentle forehead kiss.
His arms snaked their way around their torso, pulling Thyme even closer to him. "I love you too. Then and now."
-----------
The sun was setting by the time the couple arrived back at the house. Thyme took control of the hoverboard while Yusei held on, recalling duels the gang had engaged in to fill the silence.
After a scolding from Martha and teasing from the kids, they both managed to find their way to bed. The mundane routine provided security, safety. The couple could briefly forget the horrors that await them beyond the treeline.
He rested his head on their chest, ear attuned to the beat of their heart. “Your heart’s beating fast.”
“Tends to happen when my love is in bed with me.” Their fingers ruffled his hair. Nails gently scratched his scalp, making him shudder. “… thank you.”
“For what?”
“Everything.” Thyme kissed his forehead, “You never gave up on me.” I was forced to forget you.
“Least I could do for you.” Yusei grabbed their other hand, tenderly kissing their knuckles. “You’d do the same for me.” I’d do it all again even if you voluntarily forgot me.
Muffled voices could be heard through the door. Several goodnights were exchanged between those still awake. Thyme looked over to the clock on the wall- 10:45.
“Goodnight, Yusei.”
He lifted his head, placing a quick kiss on their lips, “Goodnight, Thyme. Sweet dreams.”

Admitting Alleyway Adorations
a/n: I'm now night shift and had to stay awake. Wrote some fade-to-black spice and @fruitypies encouraged me to expand it <3
Hot take- fade to black spice is 10000000x better than overt blatant spice and i WILL die on this hill.
Reminder: Thyme is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns :) <3 They're also a psychic duelist with a water deck specialty.
--------------------------------------------------
"Maybe there's a secret button somewhere." Thyme traced their hand along the concrete wall. Barren steps to a ledge with a knob-less door stood at the end of the alley. Puddles of last night's rain dotted the path beneath their feet. Didn't Crow say it was here somewhere?
"Well, it wouldn't be the first time Crow had a dead end lead." Yusei sighed, eyeing the opposing wall. He leaned against it, "I wouldn't mind resting for a bit before we make our way back to base."
The sun had fully set on Satellite now, light only emitting from far away stars and the occasional plane. The runner and hoverboard had run into engine difficulties, leading the pair to have travelled on foot from the Enforcer's headquarters.
"Do you think we'll have to run laps or just fistfight?" Thyme settled beside him.
"For your sake, hopefully just laps."
A huff, "What's that supposed to mean? I could totally take you in a fight."
"Mhm sure-" A splash of puddle water covered the boy, soaking his clothes. "Hey!"
Thyme stood to their feet, rolling away from Yusei's reach, "Oh no. Guess you'll have to fight me for your honor back."
"You cheated! No water!" Frustrated, he rose to his feet. "Just good old fashioned fighting, Thyme."
"Of course, darling."
Yusei was grateful for the limited lighting. They couldn't see how the pet name made him blush. Get it together! Thyme just wants to throw you off your game.
Punches, dodges, kicks, and flips scattered gravel across the alleyway. Thyme managed to catch Yusei's fist, taking the momentum to slam him off balance against the opposite wall. A well-placed knee kept his hips from moving while their hands pinned his arms beside his head.
"I win." They leaned close, placing a quick kiss on his lips.
Yusei didn't respond, breath heavy and mind blank about what just happened. The pair had never been this close before. This... intimate before. When was their last time alone together? Something in his chest desperately wanted them close. Wanted them always by his side.
You've always craved this. His skin felt on fire where they touched him. I want more...
Thyme touched their foreheads together, grinning as they felt his hips rock against their knee. "You just have to ask, Yusei."
He found enough strength to push up, capturing their lips in another intense kiss.
Figures breathless in entangled limbs. Damp concrete met cloth and skin as they pinned him again against the wall. Hands got desperate as the kiss deepened, teeth grazing bruised lips for permission. Their nails traced patterns underneath his shirt.
A stifled moan, "Please." Yusei buried his face in their neck, trying to catch his breath.
Thyme pulled back, forcing their eyes to meet. A playful smirk, "Hm, please what?"
Oh.... fuck....
He struggled to admit how much he liked that tone. Patience and control stretched thin with each teasing quip on their tongue. This new game they both decided to play forced previously compartmentalized feelings front and center. How long had this yearning been festering? How long had they felt the same?
On their tip toes, Thyme whispered in his ear, "Tell me what you want."
Grip on their body tightened- Yusei moved so swiftly they didn't have time to process their new position underneath him. Stairs provided him leverage as he placed them on their back. The stars dotting the sky perfectly outlined his frame. When did he get this strong?
"Please let me love you." Yusei's eyes locked with theirs. His cheeks dusting with pink and pulse thundering in his ears. I only want you.
After the head rush, Thyme realized they weren't pinned to the ground. He'd left them enough room to leave, if they wished. Even after this drawn-out foreplay, he wanted to be sure. He's waiting for permission. Reassurance that it's okay to feel this way.
The silent fear in the back of his mind- Please love me back.
A hand creeped up to hold his face. Thyme's thumb traced his cheekbone. Yusei let out a shaky breath, unaware that he hadn't been breathing. How long had it been since he inhaled voluntarily? Minutes? Seconds? He wanted this moment to last as long as they'd allow it. Don't leave.
He closed his eyes, taking in every aspect of this intimacy. Yusei caressed their hand, letting his thumb trace their knuckles as he placed gentle kisses over their palm. A whine died in his throat.
Thyme finally broke the silence, "Only if I get to love you in return."
Lips crashed in reignited passion. Their hands wandered as he let his weight pin their body to the concrete. Hips rocked together, desperate for friction of any capacity. Yusei didn't realize how much he craved Thyme until that victory kiss. Thyme didn't realize how badly they needed Yusei until their bodies pressed together in genuine adoration. Needy gasps and desperate hands traced every outline, every scar, every pulse point. Bruises marked their collars, red handprints scraping down each hip.
A breath of air, "I love you."
"I love you, too."
---
Crow propped his feet up, eating popcorn as he stared down the front door. Jack sipped tea, arms crossed. With concern or disdain, one could never tell.
"Why are we waiting for them? It's been almost 48 hours." The blond finished his tea. "They probably visited Martha. I'm not concerned."
"Shhhhh, they'll be back any second now. I know it."
"How?"
Crow stretched his arms, offering some popcorn, "I sent them on a goose chase. I replaced part of Thyme's scrunchies with a tracker."
Jack pinched the bridge of his nose, "And why would you do that?"
A shrug, "I got tired of waiting."
The door swung open. The couple walked in, bruises unceremoniously dotting their necks. Yusei draped an arm around Thyme's waist, leading them past the others down the stairs to the kitchen. They both noticeably avoided the stares of the other two.
Jack sighed and placed $20 in Crow's outstretched hand. "Fucker."

Dueling Consciousness
a/n: the immediate aftermath of Thyme's disappearance
In this moment, Thyme wished they had never loved him.
They didn't remember when this battle started, just pain... constant pain. Each card played by their opponent felt real. Each point of damage tore at her body. Each cackle of laughter from the opposing duelist made their headache worsen.
A sudden burning in their arm made their deck fall to the ground. A red glow? What was that shape...?
"You'll be coming with me, Water Weaver."
One figure... two figures? The shadows danced in an entrancing circle. Thyme’s vision blurred; rapid sequences of images flooded their mind. Attempts to use their psychic water ability felt like running into a wall. "N-no..."
Where was the team? Where was Yusei? He promised to meet them here, saying there was something he had to give them, to tell them.  Couldn't he send Crow or Jack if he couldn't make it?
Someone help me!
Unfamiliar footsteps blocked all hearing. Thyme felt their body move without consent. Voices blended together into jumbled background noise. Wherever Yusei was, it wasn't where they needed him most. In final moments of their own consciousness, Thyme's heart shattered.
I thought you loved me...
---
Disarray couldn’t begin to describe the state of the garage. Scrap metal scattered across the floor. Tools thrown in a rage embed themselves into the walls. Crow knew better than to disturb a grieving mechanic.
“Hey Yu-“ another wrench flew past, barely missing his face as it hit the door.
He allegedly knew better.
It's been 2 weeks and no sign of Thyme. Headquarters is too quiet, no melodies nor laughter echoing in decrepit hallways. Sea stories and duel glories don't fill the kitchen where the Enforcers would drink and plot. Kalin was in the Facility, Jack isolated himself- it was only Crow and Yusei left in this crumbling building overlooking Satellite’s sunrises.
“Yusei,” Crow pulled the wrench out of the decrepit wood, “Have you… even left this room once?”
Silence.
“You need to eat.”
“I’m fine.” His jaw tensed.
A sigh, Crow sat beside him, “…We’ll find them.” He handed the wrench back, eyes trying to meet Yusei's avoidant stare. "We just need to keep looking."
"They're not here."
"You know that's not true. They're still out there-"
"Thyme is not on Satellite."
"Whaddaya mean?!"
Yusei closed his eyes, leaning his forehead onto his runner. "We've searched everywhere.. They're nowhere on this island."
Crow tilted his head, "Yusei, there's no way for us to be sure about that. You know how big this place is. It's just a handful of us scouring every nook and cranny we can find."
Where are you? Yusei pulled Thyme's deck from his belt and held it to his chest. Guilt riddled his mind. If he'd been able to outrun Securities faster. If he'd picked a different meetup spot. If he'd never loved them-
"Stop that." The mechanic looked up as Crow gave him a light shove. "Don't think I can't tell what you're thinking. Yusei, whatever happened to Thyme isn't your fault."
"But-"
Another shove, "Stop it! I mean it. You're not to blame for their disappearance. We're going to find them, even if it's the last thing we do."

Break Through Break Down Break Free
a/n: it's ya neighborhood they/she back at it again with rewatching childhood shows to escape the horrors :) Anyway made a 5Ds character their name is Thyme and they rock
(disclaimer I don't really know how all the YGO cards work so this is really theater of the mind. Or you can watch the show where they overexplain every plot point at least three times.) (I took actual psychic damage rewatching this but its worth it.)
--------------------------------------------------------------
"Thyme!"
Footsteps raced down the hallway of the Fortune Cup waiting room. Thyme stopped, turning around to meet piercing blue eyes. "Thyme, you're alive!"
Yusei. That other one with the marker on the screen as all the duelists were announced. Thyme absentmindedly touched their own marker, a star on their left cheek. Sayer had ushered away Akiza and Thyme before any duelists could meet on the podiums. Seeing this boy  in person felt different somehow. His voice sounded so familiar...
A splitting headache made Thyme wince. Blurred images blended into a collage of misplaced moments. Holding their head, they stumbled backward, forcing Akiza to catch them, "You're...No..."
"Thyme! It's me, remember?" He sounded desperate- what was he searching for? " What happened to you? Where have you-"
Akiza stepped between them, "Take 15 steps back, pal. It's insane to rush up to a stranger! The fuck's wrong with you, Satellite?" Her fists balled, ready for defense.
"S...satellite..." Thyme closed their eyes, headache worsening. It felt like storm clouds and tsunamis fighting for dominance. Too many faces at once, but all of them centered at one location-. "Ship...yard..."
He visibly tensed at that. "Thyme, please-" A firm hand gripped Yusei's shoulder.
"That'll be enough from you." Sayer talked through an unsettling smile, "Why are you trying to distract your opponents? Throw them off their game? Are you're dueling capabilities that mediocre?"
"No, I-"
"Thyme, dear, this boy is clearly troubling you." An oversized coat draped Thyme's body. Sayer's authoritative tone left no room for discussion,, "Let's get you some rest before your duel."
Yusei reached a hand out, only for Akiza to smack it away. "Save it for the battlefield, creep! You've caused enough damage already."
The trio strode away. As they rounded the corner, Thyme managed to catch Yusei's gaze one final time. It was as if they were trying to speak without words-
Do I know you?
He was never one to cry. Always kept his calm demeanor in stressful situations. Watching the love of his life be ripped away for a second time, Yusei felt droplets silently streak down his face. His mind has never felt more determined-
I'll rescue you no matter what.
---
The twins opened their home for the night, awaiting day 2 of the Fortune Cup. Yusei tidied up the kitchen while Bolt and Leo dueled by the pool. Gramps had already fallen asleep in the recliner, snoring away.
Luna sat at the counter, silently observing Yusei as he maneuvered their kitchen. Something seemed off, but she couldn't quite place it. The stress of the tournament, maybe? His deck was laying next to her...
"Your spirits say you're sad." Luna held her hand on top of the deck.
Yusei shrugged it off, "Oh yeah? Leo did say you talk to cards."
She huffed, "I can, and you're definitely sad!"
"Ouch. Sad how?"
"That Thyme doesn't know you."
Glass shattered as it dropped to the floor. Luna was grateful Yusei's back was turned so she didn't have to bear the weight of the sadness in his eyes.
"... You're right." He slowly knelt to the ground, cleaning up the shards.  "They're even using a completely new deck type. They left Satellite and traded water for undead zombies."
"You both used to be really close." Luna shut her eyes, completely tuning in to his cards, "You were in love. And then they vanished. That's why you never take that second pouch off your belt. It's their original water deck; you want to give it back to them. You don't want to lose them a second time."
Yusei's eyes began to well with tears. He stood, holding the glass in his hands, staring at his reflection in them. How could you forget your roots? Forget us? The team?
She continued, "You found Thyme but they have no idea who you are- or even who they were. Like everyone was erased." Luna finally opened her eyes, "But you did find them, Yusei. You both duel tomorrow- make those memories come back! Like you and Leo did!"
He tossed the glass away and looked up to her gaze, "You're right. I'll do my best to duel those memories back out."
"Yeah!"
"One request before bed."
"Oh? Like what?"
"Will you... please read their deck?"
"Huh?"
Tenderly, as if they'd vanish if moved too quickly, Yusei set Thyme's old deck on the counter, "Could the cards tell us what happened that day?"
Luna nodded, "I'll try my best, but it was so long ago..." She closed her eyes, again atuning to the spirits. "There was... a place with a lot of boats... and scrap metal..."
"Satellite's shipyard." Yusei crossed his arms.
Her brow furrowed, "They say... you were late... and some stranger forced Thyme to duel."
Thyme... you lost a duel while waiting for me? I tried to get there-
"They got bombarded by real card attacks. Like the Black Rose but this was done by a man. And then a weird card made Thyme act strangely. Their arm glowed red and they abandoned their deck." Luna flipped the top card, "Stormwave Dragon tried to help, but Thyme's eyes were empty. Like they were being controlled by someone else."
"They got brainwashed in a duel?!" He balled his fists, shaking with volatile emotions suddenly bubbling up. "If only I had been able to outrun Securities faster... I could've fought with them..."
Luna released the deck, eyes heavy with exhaustion, "They're under someone's spell. You just have to break it."
---
The stadium roared with excitement as Yusei and Thyme's monsters clashed in battle. Sparks flew as steel met steel. Thyme's undead warriors matched their weapons against Yusei's mechanical army.
"This isn't you, Thyme!" He called out, "Don't you remember me, remember anyone back home?"
"I have a home with Akiza and Sayer in Arcadia."  They placed a card facedown. "Stop saying my name like you know me."
"I do know you!" He drew a card, "I'll show you what Arcadia took from you! I summon Stormwave Dragon!"
"What? That's-"
Yusei smiled, "It's your dragon! You and I found dragon cards together in the junkyard. Please, Thyme, I know you're in there."
Total clarity.
Memories came flooding back with enough force to make them stumble. Thyme grabbed their head, sharp pain ripping through their skull. All those moments, friendships, intimate gatherings, freedom when riding on the old highway.
Any ounce of love was replaced with anger.
"You left me at the shipyard!" Thyme's voice was raw. Ripples of psychic energy rocked the stadium. Water began seeping onto the field, flowing up through cracks Akiza left behind in the previous duel.
Yusei stepped forward, greeting the water instead of fearing it. "I was on the way!!"
"You set me up! I thought you loved me!" A red glow illuminated their arm. Water rained down in the stands, causing the crowd to begin to scatter.
"I do love you!" He gripped his chest, trying to keep his composure. "I always have."
"Liar!" Thyme felt their abilities growing unstable but they didn't care anymore. The rage, the longing, all their emotions finally bubbled to the top and couldn't be contained. "Do you not realize how I've suffered since that day? The day you abandoned me?" More water burst through the ground, current increasing and threatening to wash the duel away.
Yusei braced himself, "I never stopped looking for you, Thyme. I've been searching ever since I got here. I loved you then and I love you now." He drew another card, his own arm glowing red, "And I'll prove it right here!"
As their life points hit zero, Thyme began to sway and stumble. The water began to retreat, leaving puddles as the only evidence of upheaval. Thyme began to fall, letting their strength seep away with the streams. Familiar arms caught them, bringing their body into a warm, tender embrace.
All those ounces of anger turned to grief.
"I'm so sorry," his voice a whisper, only for them in this moment. Yusei's hug tightened, as if they'd disappear again if he let go.
Thyme found solace in that, allowing themself to believe in this love, even for a moment. "I forgive you."
"I... held onto this for you." He pulled out their water deck, "I think you dropped it."
They accepted, bringing the cards to their chest, "Thank you, Yusei."
After a few seconds, they both stood to their feet. Hand in hand they walked off the field. Mixtures of cheers and boos echoed through the stadium- neither cared. It'd been too long they'd been separated.
One thing blocked them from entering the waiting room.
"Thyme, great duel out there." Sayer extended a hand. The pair realized how alone they were in the hallway, "Let's get back to your room, you look exhausted."
Yusei's grip tightened, "Get lost."
"Oh, I think Thyme can speak for themself." An unsettling smile, "Are you really going to crawl back to the very boy who abandoned you? What about your family? Arcadia gave you a home when the rejects tossed you aside."
Thyme's gaze darkened, only one response on their lips, "I don't need my deck like you do."
Water suddenly crawled up Sayer's legs, freezing in an instant. He tried to maintain balance as Thyme caught him with a right hook. Ice shattered and melted as he fell down, chin bruised.
"Come for me or my friends again and I'll kill you with my bare hands." Thyme grabbed Yusei's arm as they stepped into the waiting room. "Crawl back to Arcadia with one less drone. We're done."
Sayer grit his teeth as the doors closed. Thyme was free.
